An
electronic database system is utilized to keep track of the over 7000 titles in the LAC Library. Students use the database to conduct searches for books to read.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
Students in kindergarten through 8th grade participate in the AR program. Students are encouraged to reach their reading goal each quarter. The test database contains greater than 150,000 tests. Students are awarded AR certificates at the 1st and 2nd semesters.
Library Curriculum: Enjoyment and Love of Reading
The enjoyment and love for books and reading is fostered through the librarian reading stories out loud to the students. These stories are often accompanied with puppets and other props. A variety of authors and genres are introduced.
Students attend library for 30 minutes each week. They learn such things as genres of literature, fiction and non-fiction, comparing and contrasting two or more books, discussing stories. Additionally they learn and review such terms as author, illustrator, title, publisher, etc. Students learn to use the library database system, to locate books, according to the Dewey Decimal System.
